India Crusade in Kakinada

Pastor Jyothi Reddi had recently invited Rev. Curtis Silcox and Pastor Rusty Nelson to come minister at the crusade in Kakinada. They were given special permission to speak in an area that it is illegal for foreign evangelists to minister inside the country. The first night of the meeting there were 8,000 people and by the end of the week that number grew to 18,000. There were many conversions to Christianity. The people of Kakinada just showed an incredible hunger for God during these meetings.

Outreach to Ministers

With your support we were able to not only pray over the group of pastors and encourage them, but was also able to sow a financial seed in their life. There was no way we could take a picture of each pastor, but we would like to tell you one testimony. A minister, whose husband had deserted her and her children, felt impressed of the Lord to open a seamstress business. Her prayer was that God would send confirmation by supplying her financial need. She was overjoyed with the gift we presented her and took that gift as her mandate from God that she was in the right direction.

Rameswaram

This city is the second most sacred place for the Hindu population. Hindus save up their entire life to be able to come bathe in these waters. They believe this body of water will wash their sins away. The most eye-opening fact is, the very waters they are bathing in is the same water the city uses as a sewage dump! After bathing in the water they lay their clothes on the rocks because they believe they are not pure. They go to the High priest to have him impart a blessing over them. In the final step, they have their hair shaved, going as far as even sacrificing their hair! When you see these people leave their “Holy Place” they walk away with no change, joy or hope on their faces.

Hyderabad

Lata & Abraham Lincoln are the founders of Faith Welfare Society. They run one of the most impressive orphanages I have ever seen. Taking care of 400 children with no large sponsorship, her and her husband minister all around to local villages reaching out.

Jyothi Reddi’s Home for Children

We were able to take time to visit the home for children. We are excited to still be a part of this ministry. Bro. Jyothi has over 500 children in their home.

I am listening to Israel Houghton “Just Wanna Say”. I realize that this is the first day since Stephanie died that I have really sat down and listened to this type of song during my time alone with God. It is a song that is full of rejoicing. It felt good to hear it this morning, yet awkward at the same time. To fully understand this, you have to know mine and my families’ relationship with music. It is not that we sang or played or performed. Music has always been a defining factor in everything we have ever done. It speaks to me deeply and is incredibly meaningful to everything in my life. Now, I find myself hearing this song this morning and realizing, Joy is within my reach. My father has preached so many times that we contain within us everything we need to serve the Lord. HE has placed it there and given us those gifts of the spirit, if we will only realize it and allow them to grow and work in our lives. But, if it is possible, it is as if I went to the Father and handed him my Joy five months ago when Stephanie died, as if to say, “I won’t be needing this”. The Father, in His patience and ultimate understanding just nodded and began guarding my Joy, until I could make the journey back.

So, this morning I seemingly by accident found my way back to this song that I used to listen to so often. This time I didn’t turn it off. I didn’t avoid it. I could actually feel it; Joy, within my reach. I began to cry as I listened to the words, “You said You’d never leave me, never leave me lonely. You said you won’t forsake me…. Surely I believe”. And I do. I have often said that one day I would trade in this sorrow for joy. Now I know that day is within my scope of reality. The statement that I wrote in my journal this morning says it best: “Father, I approach You and reach out for the Joy which you have provided me”. I believe.

Siempre,

Deliska

“It is my way or the highway”

“If you don’t like this choice, you sure aren’t going to like the second one”

“Turn or burn!”

All of these statements lend to the idea that we have two choices. I have pretty much grown up with this mindset in our household. Believe me; Curtis Silcox did not just start preaching this a few years ago! How old am I? Well, you get the idea. When he was expressing it, it was something to the tune of, “You either live by my rules or you can hit the road! These are the boundaries, as long as you choose to stay here.” Ouch! That chaffed me more than a few times!

I can now look back on those moments and see how God was preparing me even then, for His path. Now, of course, God speaks to each of us in a way that we can understand and respond to. For me, God has always given me two choices. I can either bow in submission to His will or be miserable. Aaah, yes, the misery choice; I have chosen it more than I care to remember. Crazy, I know, but I did. And to this very day, I have moments where I am faced with that question, “Why don’t you just go get another job, forget this living by faith and live to yourself.” It sounds like an innocent question. It doesn’t even sound like I would be choosing misery. After all, plenty of people hold secular jobs and serve the Lord. But, then I remember that God has chosen a unique path for each of us and that mine is… well, a faith walk. I will be honest with you. Some days, I meet my father at the office, I look up at his face and I know it instantly… he has been asking himself the same question. “No one would even blame me for stepping out of this role for a while. Why don’t I just take the pressure off?” These are legitimate questions, but they all end with the same answer…misery.

God’s Words says, “For My yoke is easy and My burden is light (Matthew 11:30)”. If you have heard Brother Silcox preach recently you may have heard him preach “My Yoke Fits Well”. When speaking of Good News Today and the burden God has given us for you and others around this world, we can honestly say, His yoke fits us well. While the daily pressures may build up from time to time, there is no way it can outweigh the peace that we have in our hearts knowing we are in the center of His will.

Do you have that peace where you are today? Do you know you are in the center of His will? Some of you are not. You have chosen misery. God does not send you misery, but He will allow you to willfully walk into it. For, to choose anything other than His perfect will cannot fulfill the longing of your soul. It will only leave you wanting more. I encourage you today; choose His will.

It is with that unwavering resolve that we move forward in ministry. Yes, the last few months have been tough. Yes, we have had to stretch our faith in more ways than one. But, NO, we aren’t quitting! It just isn’t an option. “I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus (Philippians 3:14).”

Life is filled with opportunities for you to be a blessing to others. We would like to share with you a few ways in which you can be a blessing, by donating to one or more of these projects.

Roofing on the Gaines’ Cabin – We have had a lot of bad weather these past few months in Fayetteville. It has taken a toll on the roof at the Gaines’ cabin and we have been informed that it needs to be replaced. We want these cabins to continue to be a blessing to all who need them. $2500 need.

Upcoming adoption – Jeff and Deliska Lombard (over Providence Home) has just been presented with another opportunity to adopt a child. While they want to adopt this precious baby boy, they cannot do so unless God provides the finances. They will need $7800 by November 1st, in order for this adoption to be made possible. $7800 need.

Romania – In November, Curtis Silcox and his daughter, Deliska, will be traveling to Romania to learn more about a group of people who suffer from great persecution throughout Romania and all of Europe. We are looking at the possibility of becoming involved in this new region. You can give toward their trip to Romania. $2000 need.

China – The GNT team will be taking a trip to China, December 5-12, 2009. They will be transporting vital materials. You can help by going to China or donating for Curtis’s trip to China. $4000 need. (Individual trip cost – $1850 plus VISA)

Monthly Commitment – For the past few months, Curtis has been traveling less, just taking some time to heal and recover. He is back on the road now, but still making up for some time. This is why monthly commitments to GNT are so vital. So many of you give to GNT on a monthly basis and it is a huge blessing! If you are not a monthly supporter, or your church is looking for a place to sow into missions, please consider becoming a monthly supporter of Good News Today. Your gift will be used to touch the lives of people all over this world! $100, $75, $50, $25, $10 monthly

Our family is doing better in the sense that we are not grieving as we were at the funeral, but this is such an intense process; one that I am not sure how to navigate. And just about the time I think that I am making gains in the right direction, something unexpected puts me back at square one. Monday was Mary’s birthday (this is my sister, Stephanie’s oldest child). I took cupcakes for her to share with her class on her big day. It was a simple task. But by the time we got to the Happy Birthday song, I found myself in the midst of another stark realization; Stephanie can’t just hop up to the school with cupcakes. It is still unfathomable, but so incredibly real. I have moved beyond that feeling of disbelief, accepting the fact that she will not walk through the door any moment now. Yet, I was warm to that notion, because at least I could fool myself into thinking that it might happen. Now, I realize, will all the adult coping mechanisms that I can muster, that she most certainly will not.

I don’t want to say these things and give the impression that we are emotional basket cases (ok, verdict may still be out on a few! Haha!). Having all of these realizations is sad, but it is actually more like an altered state of reality that we are living in right now. I believe in time, that which seems awkward and altered to us now, will become “the world as we know it”. It will even be sad to see this become normal, because that will mean we are comfortable with Stephanie being gone. I have thought to myself many times that I did not want the sorrow of her passing to diminish. There is a part of me that looks upon that sorrow as the only thing I have left of her. So, to let it go would mean I lose all of Stephanie that remains. Don’t get me wrong, I am aware that I have the wonderful memory of her with me always, but when you have nothing tangible left to hold onto, tears seem to be a comforting blanket that is real to the touch. I realize that I will trade those in, in due time. God’s Word says, “You have turned for me, my mourning into dancing; You have put off my sackcloth and clothed me with gladness (Psalm 30:11)”. I look forward to that day, realizing that I will reach a point where I will be ready for a good trade.

Curtis and Paula are keeping themselves busy helping to care for Stephanie and Neil’s youngest, John Samuel, as well as continuing to travel in ministry. God had a special assignment for them with this baby and it has helped their hearts in more ways than one. Without John Samuel in their home to fill it with laughter and joy, they might have had too much time to dwell on how much they lost. Instead, Stephanie left all of us a gift; an incredibly precious gift in John Samuel Howell.
